My Name Is Gideon is the solo Stove-Top Folk, international house show venture of native New Yorker Gideon Irving. Gideon weaves his banjo, bouzouki, shruti box, mbira, jews harps and electronics into an eclectic song-story hybrid during his live performances. February he finished his "To The Other Side Tour" playing 30 shows in homes across the country from New York to Oakland. In May 2012 he completed his "Way Over There Tour" in New Zealand Where he played 80 shows in homes across the south and north islands over 4 months traveling on bicycle with his instruments towing in a trailer behind and in October he played 35 shows in homes on his "Staying Put Tour" traveling show to show on roller blades while pushing a modified shopping cart. This May he will depart for his "Back To The Other Side Tour" from Oakland to NY and then in July he will go on his "Returning Back To The Other Side Tour".
While Gideon tours through homes he is always collecting contacts from members in the audience for other possible house show hosts down the line. So far he has toured in NZ and USA, but plans to go everywhere else. He is always open and searching for invitations and possibilities around the globe.
Gideon has been writing songs since he was a tiny tot, but he began playing banjo in 2007 and moved to Asheville, North Carolina to study with Banjoist and legendary potter Akira Satake in 2008. He began playing old time and bluegrass, but was soon writing his own songs influenced by West African Griot music, Tuvan throat singing, Garage Folk, Pastries, Traditional Irish, Broadway show tunes and his friends. Gideon has enjoyed writing in the third person.
